It's not everyday you see a 40-foot-high golf tee, let alone one in the middle of downtown Calgary. Then again, it's not every day a major golf tournament supports such a big cause.

ATB Financial chose June's first sunny lunch hour to promote its upcoming "Teein' it up" event outside its downtown branch on Stephen Avenue. In addition to unveiling a towering golf tee and eye-catching window wraps, ATB-branded golf carts shuttled customers through the busy downtown corridor, and "Million Dollar Hole in One" golf balls were handed out to passers-by on the street. There was even a 3-D transit ad (made up of real tees) installed outside the branch to promote the media event and raise awareness of the 2nd annual ATB Financial Classic. All of this activity was linked to the Classic's support of Alberta’s STARS air ambulance service.

Sponsoring one of the Canadian Professional Golf Tour's premier stops was an important touch-point with Calgarians last year, so ATB Financial turned to Karo Group Calgary to make an even bigger deal of this year's event and its connection to STARS. Creative Director Phil Copithorne. says: "The goal here was to use some non-traditional means of advertising to create a lot of buzz about the tournament. We wanted to leverage our client’s support of STARS, which is such an important part of the Calgary community."
