Karo to host Calgary's first TEDxYYC

Wednesday, February 03, 2010

As a company who loves big ideas, we’re proud to be an official sponsor of Calgary’s first TEDx event. Since 1984, the annual TED conference has been a forum for the world’s leading thinkers to share new and inspiring ideas. Now the TEDx program allows local organizers to bring the spirit of TED to their own cities.

When Karo heard there was a group in Calgary organizing TEDxYYC, we immediately approached them to see how we could contribute. As it turned out, the committee was looking for a venue and we just happen to have an industrial-style warehouse that’s perfect for a creative, idea-centred event like TED. But we wanted to get our hands a little dirty, too. So project manager Adam Goetz is on the marketing subcommittee, helping out with sponsorships, speaker selection and communications. We’ve also been contributing our services on website development, environmental design and event logistics.

TEDxYYC will bring local and international minds to Calgary to share their ideas with an audience of ambitious thought leaders. It’s sure to spark conversations that will enrich the city creatively. The event, on Friday, February 26, is now full, but you can catch the live stream via the TEDxYYC site.

Last year, Karo's warehouse saw some grafitti and dance action at Raise It Up, a celebration of hip hop culture. Thanks goes to Rommel Villa for the photos.
