New Oilers Owner came to Karo Country

Tuesday, February 26, 2008

Hockey fans everywhere - but especially in Edmonton - watched with great interest in February 2008 as billionaire Daryl Katz was finally able to fulfill his dream of buying his local team.

Katz, the owner of pharmacy chain Rexall Group, had to convince each of the 34 members of the Edmonton Investment Group that he was personally and financially committed to the Oilers.

To that end, the native Edmontonian worked with PR firm Longview Communications and Karo to develop a 13 page pitch book to present to the EIG.

The book - Building The Legacy - outlined Katz's passion for the team.  There were supportive quotes from Oiler legends Wayne Gretzky and Mark Messier and lots of photographs of great Oiler moments; including the 1987 Stanley Cup victory that features a young Katz in the crowd cheering on the team.

The book also looked ahead to Katz's vision for the Oilers with renderings and sketches of his envisioned new stadium and Founders Lounge.
