Angles Hair and Aesthetics

Interior Design

1999

THE CHALLENGE    To relocate a successful salon business from a smaller, inner city space to a premier downtown location in a historic building. The heritage architecture of the new site would be offset by the very modern hair styles and cosmetic, styling and aesthetic products sold by the client. Karo needed to create a space to celebrate both past and present – the harmony between restored tradition and innovation.

THE KARO SOLUTION    Karo’s contemporary buildouts, including precision millwork at hair-cutting stations, and the use of modern custom light fixtures, stand out against the timeless quality of the building’s brick and mortar construction.

The customer is presented with a vibrant, yet sensuous environment. Karo created a language of separation between the existing historical building and the new elements, giving each the breathing space needed to define the other. A new wordmark for the salon was devised at the same time as the interior was created, in order to have both entities define the salon’s look and image.

THE RESULT    Angles went on to build several other shops throughout Calgary and surrounding areas. Angles today is well known for its up- to-the-minute grasp on fashion and trends in their industry. The Angles described here is as functional and as beautiful as it was when it first opened.
