Calgary Health Region

Wayfinding

THE CHALLENGE    Foothills Campus, Peter Lougheed Centre and the Rockyview Hospital are three acute care facilities within the Calgary Health Region. Each site has evolved substantially over the last two decades, posing a significant wayfinding challenge for patients, visitors and staff. The Calgary Health Region sought Karo’s help in developing and implementing a viable wayfinding solution that will be as relevant in the future as it is today.

THE KARO SOLUTION    From initial discovery processes, focus groups, to security and operations, vehicle and pedestrian traffic studies, Karo worked closely with the client throughout the project cycle. The first phase involved programming and schematics; the second, final schedules and design development for fabrication and implementation. We undertook master planning and programming, surveys, redevelopment of graphic design, new schedules for sign types, graphic standards installation and placement details. Karo’s wayfinding team produced architectural drawings, graphic design legends and master plan specifications for all sign types and placement.

THE RESULT    Such a universal approach to wayfinding ensured that we developed a cohesive solution, while staying within budget and deadlines. The client was very pleased with Karo’s clear, logical wayfinding solution.
