Canada Harbour Place CorporationCanada Place: Promenade into history2000 THE CHALLENGE Canada Harbour Place Corporation contacted Karo to create its "Promenade into History" Interpretive Exhibit. The objective of the exhibit was to describe Vancouver viewpoints visible from the outdoor Promenade deck of Vancouver’s harbourfront landmark. THE KARO SOLUTION We constructed 43 weather-proof interpretive units from break-formed steel, with applied story panels in four-colour, silk-screened enamel. The panels were installed at intervals around the Promenade railing. Each unit points directly to famous sights around Burrard Inlet, and Canada Harbour Place Corporation relates the recent and remote past of each sight in a light-hearted tone. We researched and selected stories, photographs and visuals to appeal to a broad audience ranging from schoolchildren to tourists to corporate delegates. THE RESULT Karo's story panels were very popular with tourists and Vancouver residents alike. They greatly enhanced the visitor experience at the Vancouver harbourfront, involving them in the 'story' behind each point of interest, and giving them a greater awareness of the harbour's colourful past.
